Where did you get those wonderful toys
Everyone has memories of those claw games. The times they sunk way too much for a Bart Simpson/Stewie Griffon doll or the time they got an awesome Batman on their first shot. There's a reason why these are one of the few common remnants of the arcade age and it's because they're just plain fun.
Sheppy's Greedy Claw Crane Game is a timed dice fest with the initial goal of just acquiring toys but as the game progresses and the pickings get slimmer, players have to be more discerning with their rolls and suddenly, that 30 seconds doesn't seem like enough time. Players score according to the toys they've acquired, with bonus points achieved if they acquire the rare toy in the sets. At the end of the game, the winner is the person with the most points.
I wanted to see if I could make a simple, fast, dice game and this is what I came up with. Initially loaded with both good and bad toys, I nervously took it with me to Protospiel Milwaulkee wondering just what the reaction would be. To my surprise, people enjoyed it and so I brought it home with confidence.
To my dismay, the local group didn't care much for it. Eventually I bowed to local opinions wondering what I was thinking. But, the people at Protospiel enjoyed it so I eventually pulled it back off the backburner and began work on finishing it. Currently, it's in production at The Game Crafter and the final product will be ready to play test at Protospiel.
Should also mention it will be the first in a series of smaller arcade style games.
